Focus and Scope

The scope of EJSE is limited to manuscripts relating to science education/science teacher education issues from early childhood through the university level and informal science and environmental education.  Manuscripts that are well-written and support the dissemination of substantive research, theory, and innovative perspectives will be considered for publication.  We welcome science education manuscripts that report meaningful research, present research methodology, develop theory, and explore new perspectives.  EJSE does not accept manuscripts that are primarily describing lesson plans, activities, teaching strategies, courses, or programs.  EJSE is an open access journal with a vigorous peer-review process and high standards for publication.

 

Section Policies

Manuscripts (Research or Theory)

The scope of EJSE is limited to manuscripts relating to issues in science education/science teacher education from early childhood through the university level and informal science and environmental education. Manuscripts that are well-written (using the latest APA format) and dissemination substantive research, develop theoretical and philosophical perspectives for understanding the teaching and learning of science, or present research methodology are welcome and will be considered for publication. These should include a thorough review literature and a well-developed theoretical perspective.

 

EJSE does not accept manuscripts that are primarily describing lesson plans, activities, teaching strategies, or programs. The journal does not accept research in science.  EJSE is an open access journal with a vigorous peer-review process and high standards for publication.

Manuscripts (Position / Idea Papers)

The scope of EJSE is limited to manuscripts relating to issues in  science education/science teacher education from early childhood through the university level and informal science and environmental education. Position and idea papers that are well-written and  develop a credible perspective will be considered for publication. These manuscripts should argue a position or innovative idea related to science education theory and/or practice and connect to science education literature and research.

Articles

All manuscripts should be submitted using APA formate and with all identifying information removed.  This information will be submitted in the metadata as the author(s) submit online.

Peer Review Process

Submitted manuscripts are initially pre-reviewed by the editor.  The editor will either approve the manuscript for the peer review process or provide pre-review feedback with revision suggestions or the reason it is not an appropriate manuscript for EJSE.

Manuscripts that are approved by the editor are assigned an associate editor and three anonymous reviewers. When the reviews are complete the associate editor, in consultation with the editor, makes a decision about the manuscript.  The manuscripts may be accepted as submitted, accepted pending revisions, rejected but may be resubmitted for editorial review (doesn't require another peer review), rejected but may be resubmitted for a full review (required another peer review), or rejected.

 

Publication Frequency

Journal items will be published collectively, as part of an issue with its own Table of Contents. The frequency of publication is determined by the number of manuscripts accepted for publication (typically two to four issues per year).

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
