TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS

The scope of EJSE is limited to manuscripts relating to science education/science teacher education issues from early childhood through the university level and informal science and environmental education. Manuscripts that are well-written and support the dissemination of substantive research, theory, and innovative perspectives will be considered for publication. We welcome science education manuscripts that report meaningful research, present research methodology, develop theory, and explore new perspectives. EJSE does not accept manuscripts that are primarily describing lesson plans, activities, teaching strategies, or programs. EJSE is an open access journal with a vigorous peer-review process and high standards for publication Please contact the editor (EJSE@southwestern.edu) with any questions about the suitability of a manuscript.

MANUSCRIPT FORM

1. Manuscripts should be submitted as MS Word files. The EJSE publishes manuscripts in PDF format, unless previous arrangements have been made with the editor. Previous arrangements include discussions with the editor explaining the special need of the manuscript being published in HTML. We do encourage the use of features unique to the electronic environment such as hypertext, images, streaming video and audio when appropriate.

2. All revised and final copies of manuscripts, accepted for publication, will need to be submitted in MS Word camera-ready format. Camera-ready is defined as manuscripts that can be converted into PDF without any additional editing or formatting by the publishers of the EJSE.

3. Two electronic versions of the manuscript need to be submitted. One version that follows traditional manuscript submission guidelines including title page, authors’ names and affiliations, abstract, complete references, running head, page numbers. The other version needs to have any author identification and affiliation, including references and appendices at the end deleted. The file names should follow the following format where name is the submitting author’s last name.

name.full for the copy with identifying information

name.anon for the copy without identifying information

4. All tables and figures must be placed within the text where appropriate, not appended to the end of the manuscript. Please do not use "Insert Table X about here" in the manuscript.

5. The style manual followed for publication in EJSE is the fifth edition Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA, 2001, July). The electronic nature of EJSE requires some minor formatting modifications to the APA style as noted above.

Manuscripts not formatted according to the above guidelines will be returned to the lead author and not considered for review until properly formatted.

THE REVIEW PROCESS

Submitted manuscripts to EJSE are reviewed anonymously by members of the editorial review board. All tracking of manuscripts and reviewers is done by the editors and administrative assistant. EJSE will not review submissions previously published elsewhere, through print or electronic medium. All attempts will be made to ensure submissions will be reviewed promptly. Communication will be with the author submitting the manuscript.
All authors are required to sign a copyright agreement form and, in some cases, a photo release form (e.g. for photos of people) when the manuscript is accepted for publication.

ACCEPTANCE AND PUBLICATION

Accepted manuscripts are electronically published as issues are ready. The EJSE is not bound or limited to a publishing company or their requirements, therefore allowing a more free exchange of ideas to occur when ready
